Photo Gallery: Aurora Township Firefighters Cook Up Fundraiser

Members of the Aurora Township Fire Department sold 5Bs BBQ at Parkside Lanes on Friday night, to raise money to buy new equipment. The Lanes' own cruise night happened at the same time, with classic cars aplenty on display.

Last year, the Aurora Township Fire Department kicked off a new fundraiser—they sold delicious 5Bs BBQ at Parkside Lanes on a Friday night, during one of the bowling alley's classic car cruise nights.

Unfortunately for them, the skies opened up partway through that event, and the fire department ended up taking in only $1,000.

But on Friday night from 5-7 p.m., they tried again, with much more success. The sun shone as dozens of people made their way through the line to buy pork chops, chicken, beans and coleslaw, and then check out the classic cars on display.

Acording to Lt. Dennis Shamblin, the event had already taken in between $2,000 and $3,000 by 6 p.m. The money, he said, will be used to buy fire prevention equipment for the department, which covers parts of Montgomery, Aurora Township and unincorporated Kane County.
