Oswego Teen Sentenced for Hitting Montgomery Cop with Car: Report

An Oswego teenager has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to a drunken driving hit and run crash in which he struck a Montgomery police officer. 

Kendall Collier, 19, of the 100 block of Linden, Oswego, struck a Montgomery cop on Sept. 20, 2012 in the 600 block of Oakton Road in the early morning hours.

The officer, Sgt. Adam Kuncl, was in the area investigating a shooting.

Kuncl suffered a skull fracture, which required stitches to his head, along with a broken scapula, compressed discs in his back and multiple lacerations and bruises to his head, face and body from the crash. He is reportedly still recovering.

According to a report in the Aurora Beacon, Collier had a blood-alcohol content level of .117 five hours after the crash. The legal limit is .08 in Illinois. He was also reported as having marijuana and anxiety medication in his system

Collier got drunk at a party in Montgomery, said the Beacon, and fled when gunshots were fired, where he hit Kuncl and did not immediately stop. He was eventually arrested, but was “belligerent” towards officers and reportedly threatened to kill them.

Collier will receive credit for the 333 days he spent in Kane County Jail and will be required to serve at least 85 percent of the four-year prison term.
