Aurora Township Woman Charged in Death of 14-Month-Old Daughter

Gloria Gomez, 37, currently being held at Kane County Adult Justice Center on $250,000 bond.

An Aurora Township woman and mother of nine children has been charged in the death of her infant daughter.

Gloria Gomez, 37, of 1062 Bryant St. in Aurora Township, is being held for involuntary manslaughter at the Kane County Adult Justice Center on a $250,000 bond.

At about 2:45 a.m. Thursday, Kane County Sheriff's Office deputies and North Aurora Fire Department medics were dispatched to Gomez’s home for a report of a 14-month-old child who was unconscious and not breathing.

Lt. Pat Gengler of the Kane County Sheriff's Office said when officials arrived, Gomez was outside holding the child. Gomez initially told officials the child had been sleeping in a bed, according to reports.

The baby was transferred to Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora where she was pronounced dead.

Officials said there were no immediate signs of injuries or indication of a cause of death. An autopsy Friday by the Kane County Coroner’s Office, however, revealed the child had extensive internal injuries, including lacerations of the liver and kidneys and rib fractures.

Gomez’s next court date is July 6.

Her three remaining children in the area are in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services, officials said. Gomez also has five children living in Mexico.

The Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency has placed a hold on Gomez.
