No Injuries, Extensive Damage in Sunday Afternoon Fire

Aurora Township firefighters extinguished a blaze in the 1200 block of Pleasant Street around 2:10 p.m. Sunday.

An early afternoon fire in a home in the 1200 block of Pleasant Street in Aurora Township caused about $35,000 in damage, according to Aurora Township Fire Chief Rob Watermann.

But none of the seven occupants of the home were injured, Watermann said.

The call came in around 2:10 p.m., Watermann said. The 1200 block of Pleasant Street is only a few blocks from the Aurora Township Fire Department's Montgomery Road station, and Watermann said he could see the smoke plume from the driveway.

"When we got there, heavy flames were shooting from the rear of the house," Watermann said.

There were seven people inside the roughly 1,200-square-foot house at the time, but all were safely evacuated. The blaze was out in about 15 minutes, Watermann said, but the home was deemed uninhabitable. The occupants are now staying with relatives, he said.

The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical. Watermann said there were three space heaters plugged into one extension cord in the back bedroom, although it has not been determined whether those heaters were running at the time.

The Montgomery and Countryside Fire Department assisted with the fire, and the Plainfield Fire Department came through with an ambulance, Watermann said.
