No Drunken Drivers in Kendall Holiday Crackdown

The Kendall County Sheriff's Department has released results of its two-week enforcement campaign, which include 12 seatbelt citations and three speeding tickets - but no drunken driving arrests.

The slogan of the campaign was “Drive sober, or get pulled over.” But in the end, Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies charged no one with drunken driving during a two-week Christmas and New Year’s holiday enforcement crackdown.

They did, however, write 12 citations for drivers (and one passenger) not wearing a seat belt, the most common infraction, according to results of the enforcement campaign released last week. They wrote up three drivers for speeding, three for driving without insurance, and three more for driving with expired plates, according to Deputy Craig French.

joined up with other state and local law enforcement agencies on the campaign, which included higher-visibility enforcement and a strategic media campaign. Extra emphasis was given to the late-night hours, French said, since that’s when most cases of drunken driving and failure to belt up occur.
