Molotov Cocktail Tossed at Scene of Drive-By Shooting: Police

Another incident reported on Frances Lane.

Less than a week after several teens were arrested following a drive-by shooting, Montgomery police are investigating a possible arson at the same location.

Police responded around 11:35 p.m. Sunday to the 2800 block of Frances Lane, according to Chief Daniel Meyers. He said a resident found a wine bottle with a partial burnt rag stuck inside it in the driveway of the home.

As in the Feb. 11 shooting on the same block, no one was injured, Meyers said, and there was no property damage.

Meyers said the bottle and rag have been collected for evidence purposes, and will be sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for processing.

No arrests have been reported in the case, and witnesses are being asked to call the Montgomery Police Department 630 897-8707 x 3300 or the Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000 with information.

Last week, 18-year-old Saul Muro, of the 0-100 block of Durango, Boulder Hill, was arrested following an incident on the same block in which several shots were fired from a vehicle.

Muro is charged with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Two other teens were also charged in connection to the Feb. 11 incident. A 17-year-old from Aurora, who was taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center, is also charged with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, police said.

Another 17-year-old from Boulder Hill was taken to the Illinois Youth Center in St. Charles and will be charged with unlawful contact with a gang member and juvenile parole violation, according to Meyers.

Meyers said police believe two earlier incidents in the 2800 block of Frances are also connected to the shooting. On Feb. 7, residents reported that someone broke the glass on their front storm door. On Feb. 10, a day before the shooting, the windows on a vehicle parked on the the street were broken out, he said.

Police are also looking into another shooting on Feb. 11, this one on Denham Drive. In that incident, witnesses saw a male suspect firing a gun into the air multiple times. No one was hurt in that incident, and two suspects in dark clothing were seen running away from the scene of the shooting.
