Kane Sheriff: Man in Fatal Crash Was in Another Crash Same Evening

The 54-year-old man refused a ride out of the area after the first Dec. 10 crash, police said. He died later that night.

A 54-year-old man that was fatally struck by a pickup truck on Monday was involved in another car crash earlier that day, police said.

Dean Craig of Aurora was walking in the area of Dugan and Jericho roads in unincorporated Sugar Grove Township after he was involved in an earlier traffic crash to the north. The first crash occurred at about 6 p.m. on Monday, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

In the first crash, Craig said he was traveling north on Dugan Road about .2 miles south of Granart Road. He was making a left turn into a driveway of a residence to turn around, the Sheriff's Office said.

As Craig attempted to make that turn, he turned in front of a vehicle that was traveling south on Dugan Road. In that crash both vehicles had to be towed because of the damage, but there were no injuries.

The Sheriff’s deputy who handled the initial crash offered Craig a ride but he refused. He said he had called a friend who would pick him up. No citations were issued in that crash. into the first crash was completed, the Sheriff's Office said.

In the second crash, a Toyota Tundra pickup was traveling east on Jericho Road between the intersection of Dugan and Ashe roads when it struck a pedestrian who was walking east on Jericho Road. The pedestrian, identified as Craig, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No citations have been issued in the second crash at this time, according to a Sheriff's Office statement.

An investigation into the crash continues.
