Boulder Hill Sex Abuse Case Continued to June

Kevin Freeman of Boulder Hill made an extremely brief appearance in court on Tuesday, and won’t be back before a judge until next month.

Freeman, 27, of the first block of Shermead Road in Boulder Hill, is accused of having sexual contact with two teens between the ages of 13 and 17, both of whom were in his care as a youth leader at in Boulder Hill, according to court records.

He is charged with seven counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony, and two counts of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony. The multiple incidents allegedly took place between Dec. 1, 2010, and Feb. 28, 2011, according to the indictments handed down on March 28.

Eight of those nine counts concern one victim, a 16-year-old girl, and occurred in Saw-Wee-Kee and Waa-Kee-Sha parks in unincorporated Kendall County, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s department. The ninth count concerns a second victim, the first to come forward, who is also between 13 and 17 years old, according to court records.

On Tuesday, Freeman’s lawyer, Stephen Krentz, said he had received transcripts from the grand jury and police reports, but asked for more time to gather more documents. Kendall County Judge John Barsanti set a new court date of June 5 at 9 a.m.

Krentz had no comment on the case Tuesday.

Freeman has requested a jury trial on all counts. He faces up to seven years in prison for each of the Class 2 charges, and up to 15 years in prison for the Class 1 charges. The Class 1 charges are not punishable by probation, and those prison sentences would run consecutively, according to Barsanti.

Freeman remains in custody at the Kendall County Jail in Yorkville.
