A 7-Eleven store in North Aurora was robbed Thursday morning, according to police.

The robbery occurred at the 7-Eleven on 718 Butterfield Road. This is in the plaza on the southwest corner of Butterfield and Hart/Mitchell roads. North Aurora patrol officers were dispatched to the scene at 5:35 a.m., according to a police statement released Friday afternoon.

"Upon arrival, officers learned that at approximately 5:15 a.m., a male wearing a mask entered the store and pointed a small black gun at (a store clerk)," the statement said. "The suspect demanded cash from the register and the clerk complied, giving him an undetermined amount of cash."

The suspect also took an unknown quantity of lottery scratch-off tickets and several cartons of cigarettes before he left the store. He was last seen headed westbound from the store.

Officers completed a search of the area but could not find him. The man was armed with what appeared to be a black semi-automatic gun.

The suspect was described as:

Maybe if the complex turned on the parking lot lights it would deter the robbers. Pitch black, even at 6:30 am. Scares ya just to pull in.....

I agree Wendy. Also, why was there a 20 minute window from burglary to NAPD being on the scene? That is a little strange!
