2-Year-Old Dies After Falling Into Pond

The boy died two days after he was rescued from a freezing retention pond in unincorporated Montgomery.

A toddler who was pulled from a retention pond in unincorporated Montgomery Monday afternoon has died.

The 2-year-old, identified as Mohamed Qattum of the 200 block of Fernwood Road, died Wednesday, according to the Beacon News. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Kendall County Sheriff's police said the boy was reported missing at around 12:15 p.m. Monday after walking away from his mother and his siblings. 

Deputies found the toddler in a retention pond near his home and were able to pull him from the freezing water, which was partially iced over. 

He was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

Kendall County Sheriff's police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the boy's disappearance but said no foul play was suspected.
