Weekender: Holiday Fun for the Whole Family

Friday, Dec. 9

Where: , 72 Polk St., Oswego
Why go: Enjoy a nostalgic stroll through Christmases and winter holidays past at "Toys from the Attic." Little White School Museum Assistant Director Bob Stekl has selected a variety of toys and related materials, along with a fascinating selection of Christmas and holiday cards, to bring back memories of long ago. The museum store is also featuring a variety of Oswego-themed items that will make great holiday gifts.

When: The Holiday Express will run from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 9; 2 to 3:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 10; 2 to 3 p.m. and 3:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11
Where: , 810 Preston Lane, Oswego
Why go: The Oswego Holiday Express feature the Polar Express story being read on the way to meet Santa, real Reindeer and hot cocoa. Participants must register for this event. Trains will run every 20 minutes.
Cost: $10 Tickets are still available for Sunday afternoon for purchase at Boulder Point Friday before noon. Tickets for Sunday can also be purchased at South Point the day of.

When: 5 p.m.
Where: , 1525 Harvey Rd., Oswego
Why go: It's a classic matchup—OEHS vs. OHS. Bring a toy for Toys for Tots and get in free.
Cost: Free with toy donation. $4 for adults, $2 for students with ID, and $1 for seniors.

A Christmas Carol
When: 7 p.m.
Where: Paramount Theatre, 8 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora
Why go: It’s a classic. Dickens’ holiday fable comes to life on the amazing Paramount stage.
Cost: $37 for adults, $26 for children

Saturday, Dec. 10


When: 8 a.m.
Where: Starts at , 198 S. Railroad St., Montgomery
Why go: You don’t have to – if you live in the district, the parade will come to you. Santa will ride a fire truck through all the streets of the fire protection district, from 8 a.m. to noon.
Cost: Free


When: 10 a.m.
Where: , 1300 S. Broadway, Montgomery
Why go: Snacks and Santa Claus. There is no bad here.
Cost: Free


When: 11 a.m.
Where: Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave., Aurora
Why go: It’s Santa Claus! That guy gets around. You can get a picture with ol’ Saint Nick for an additional $5.
Cost: $5 


When: 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Also takes place Sunday.
Where: Little White School Museum, 72 Polk St., Oswego
Why go: Don't miss the opportunity to make Victorian-themed holiday decorations that are sure to add a special touch to any celebration.
Cost: Free


When: 2 p.m.
Where: Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, 420 W. Downer Place, Aurora
Why go: You can play instruments, sing along, meet Santa (him again!), and have some yummy refreshments, all for the low cost of free.
Cost: Free

Benefit for Dean and Dianne Morrissette
When: 5-11 p.m.
Where: Fox Valley Kickers Club, 1015 Harvey Dr., Oswego
Why go: Dean Morrissette was paralyzed in a hunting accident on Oct. 30. All proceeds from this benefit will go to help the family. For more, read .
Cost: $10 at the door, plus numerous other ways to donate.


When: Saturday at 5:30 or 8 p.m.; Sunday at 2 or 4:30 p.m.
Where: , 4250 Rt. 71, Oswego
Why go: Proceeds from Crystals sales support OHS Bands and Choir programs and the Oswego Foundation for Education Excellence.
Cost: $6

Sunday, Dec. 11


When: 3 p.m.
Where: Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10 N. Edgelawn Dr., Aurora
Why go: It’s a family-friendly singalong holiday event.
Cost: $12 for adults; $10 for seniors; $8 for students 12 and under; and $25 for families of up to five members.
