Team Montgomery Raises More Than $600 in Polar Plunge

For the second year in a row, a team from the Montgomery Police Department took part in the Polar Plunge in Yorkville on Sunday to benefit the Special Olympics.

More than 300 people took part in the 12th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge at Loon Lake in Yorkville on Sunday. And for the second time, a team from the joined them.

Team Montgomery raised more than $600 to benefit Special Olympics Illinois, according to Police Chief Dan Meyers. Teams in the Polar Plunge raise donations from family and friends, and to earn that money, they jump into the frigid waters of Loon Lake.

Sunday was one of the colder days we’ve seen lately, with highs of 30 degrees and lows of 23, according to The Weather Channel.

According to the Special Olympics website, 320 plungers took the dive into Loon Lake on Sunday, and in total, raised $78,000. That’s down from last year’s total of $93,418.
