Nominate a Local Hero in GM's Contest

General Motors is relaunching its successful Our Town, Our Heroes contest in 2012, with the goal of recognizing one Illinois hero per month.

Do you know a local hero who deserves a turn in the spotlight? Maybe a teacher who inspires students to achieve, or a Scout leader, or a coach, a parent, a veteran – someone who devotes their lives to making this community a better place?

If you do, General Motors wants to hear from you. As they did last year, GM is launching their Our Town, Our Heroes program this year (today, in fact), and their goal is to award one Illinois hero a month.

Here’s how it works. If you log onto www.drivingthemidwest.com, you can nominate your choice for a local hero. Finalists will be chosen once a month, and you’ll be able to vote on the site for two weeks each round. The nominee with the most votes will win.

Win what, you ask? Well, aside from some well-deserved recognition, each Our Town, Our Heroes winner (and the person who nominated him/her) will get a one-week loan of a new Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac vehicle, and $500 in gift cards. The second-place winner and his or her nominator will get a one-week vehicle loan too.

Last year, GM honored 19 heroes throughout the Midwest, including Montgomery’s own , an Aurora police officer who owns a community boxing club and works to keep kids off the street.
