UPDATED: Montgomery’s Best-Bedecked Homes Recognized

Members of the village's Beautification Committee have placed signs at the homes who were deemed winners in the Holiday Decorations Contest. UPDATED with full winners list.

A drive through the streets of Montgomery will reveal dozens of homes with signs touting them as the village's best-decorated for the holiday season.

Trustee Stan Bond, a co-chair of the Montgomery Beautification Committee, said 73 homes were nominated for the committee’s Holiday Decorations Contest.

Thursday night, committee members drove around to judge the properties, and to alert the tenants of the winning homes.

“It’s a blessing it’s not raining,” Bond said before heading out to help judge the houses. “It’s a little cold but it looks like it might be a good evening for judging.”

Owners are asked to leave these signs up through the holidays, and they will be collected after the holidays are over.

“Our hope is to publish a list so if people want to go on an evening tour they’ll know where the winners are,” Bond said.

Montgomery residents Robert and Beth Reinke were nominated for the contest by their neighbor and are now the proud owners of a sign in their yard at 144 James St.

The Reinkes decorate their home every year.

She's excited about having their home recognized by the Montgomery Beautification Committee.

"I think it's cool," she said. "My granddaughter is really excited about it. She said she's going to tell her teacher."

Bond is hopeful this year’s winners will volunteer as judges for next year’s contest.

“Then we can have a built-in judging panel,” he said.

Committee members included commercial properties in the contest, but Bond said no nominations were received for them.

“Next year we might try to promote (the contest) more through the Chamber of Commerce as well,” he said.

Entries were accepted through Dec. 12. Bond is pleased with 73 nominations that came in.

“And I know many at the were excited about that number,” he said. “I think we can grow it next year.”

Bond was looking forward to meeting the homeowners of the chosen homes Thursday night.

“It’s good holiday fun,” he said. “We should make a few people happy tonight.”
