Montgomery Fire Parade Brings Santa to the Streets

Saturday's annual holiday parade saw fire trucks making their way down every street in the Montgomery and Countryside Fire Protection District, with Santa Claus atop the ladder truck, ready with a wave and a smile.

The streets rang with the sound of sirens Saturday morning, as fire trucks, ambulances and other red, shiny vehicles made their way through the neighborhoods, escorting Santa Claus on his annual trip through Montgomery.

The parade is a tradition stretching back decades, and for about four hours Saturday morning, that tradition continued. Fire vehicles revved their engines at 8 a.m., leaving from the district’s main station on Railroad Street and heading through downtown, before branching off into the neighborhoods, Santa Claus perched in the bucket of the ladder truck.

Fire Chief Tom Meyers said the parade always visits every street in the district, which covers the western portion of Montgomery and parts of Aurora Township.

“I think the community really enjoys it,” Meyers said. “We get a lot of calls asking, ‘When is the parade?’”

It was the second Saturday of December which I was to arise to find the Montgomery Fire District dressed to the nines. They drove the Big Red’s down the street to see, that a Christmas Cheer to all they would wish to thee. To see the Santa all perched with care driving on top of the engine he would dare. The cold was out and so were many, to greet these special honored with smiles of plenty. So to each was given the heart filled wave, as to say to Montgomery you’ll be safe. So for each of us here in our small little town we say THANK YOU to each and to SANTA we say keep warm in your red gown. So once a year these special people of our town provide what is said as a tradition of warmth to those they serve. I say from this Village Resident – “Merry Christmas to them for an extra effort” Many Many Thanks!

Thank you Montgomery Fire Department for giving us many years of joy! The first year we lived in the neighborhood we heard all the sirens & thought one of our neighbors was having a heart attack or something. More than 20 years later we still love coming outside and waving to Santa & all the firefighters. Thanks for giving our neighborhoods Christmas joy! The Olson Family

Thanks to the fire dept for getting out every year in the cold, and giving kids the excitement of seeing Santa on a Saturday morning.
