Kevin Sings the News: 'Our Towns'

Patch troubadour Kevin Trudo sings a bluesy song about all the good in our communities.

This week, Patch troubadour Kevin Trudo plays the blues. But he sings about just how good life can be, if we’re paying attention.

The song is called “Our Towns,” and it brings together stories from the last seven days, most of them good, heartwarming news. There are some of the usual crime stories, of course—there’s the at a Naperville pizza place, and a in Woodridge. And there’s about water rates rising in Plainfield, and , about one of Darien’s founding fathers passing away.

But then there’s the story of a from Lemont, a county budget that includes in Minooka, the first-ever for the Bolingbrook Raiders football team, a signing with the Bears training squad, a Montgomery woman named , the story of an Oswego couple with love, and people in Romeoville stepping up to to those in need.

“There’s just so much love in our towns it’s darn near all I can see,” Kevin sings, and we couldn’t agree more. The lyrics to “Our Towns” are printed below. For more on Kevin Trudo, check out his Facebook page. And come back next Friday for another song.

Our Towns

Do you know Sarah? You really oughtta, she's a
It almost offsets the we pay for water
But somehow it fails to pale the passing of a

But we wont let them or that faze us
Put that behind us, there's a lot here has earned our loud and long praises
And there's too much good in our towns for us not to be gracious

Kendall County found the cash to , and our athletes keep winning
Bolingbrook downstate, and Plainfield sends Perry to a
While a firefighter for the service she's been bringing
And the guys at the house might give her grief, but for days she was just grinning

Dean and Dianne found love, then
It can take something terrible to strengthen what would break another couple completely
And love can be people who give up a part of their Thanksgiving to
There's just so much love in our towns that it's darn near all I see
