Area Ceremonies to Mark Veterans Day

Friday is Veterans Day, and there will be several opportunities—in Montgomery and the surrounding area—to remember those who served.

Friday is Veterans Day, a chance to honor those who sacrificed to serve our country. And here in the Montgomery area, we’ll have plenty of chances to do just that. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the Veterans Day events happening in and around town on Friday: 

The Montgomery VFW Post 7452 will hold its annual Veterans Day remembrance ceremony at starting at 11 a.m. Lunch will follow at the VFW Hall, 202 N. River Street. 

Aurora’s Veterans Day program begins at 10:15 a.m. with a parade, stepping off at Broadway and Benton Street. The parade will end in front of the Grand Army of the Republic Hall, 23 E. Downer Place, where there will be a ceremony, including a rifle salute by veterans organizations, at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Army National Guard Sgt. First Class Christopher Hess.

The Fox Valley Park District will hold a Veterans Day luncheon at the Prisco Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave. in Aurora, from noon to 2:30 p.m. The lunch is free for veterans, but costs $7 for park district residents and $10 for non-residents. Register before the end of the day Wednesday: tickets are available by calling 630-859-8606.  

Oswego will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Oswego Veterans Memorial, at Jefferson and Main streets. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m.

And finally, the Montgomery , at 350 Rt. 30, will be participating in the “Thank You Movement” program, offering free meals to veterans and active duty military personnel from 11 a.m. to midnight. For more information on that, log onto www.thankyoumovement.com.
