Bears Drop Another Game

Bears fall to 1-2 as the Packers hand them another loss.

The Bears once again failed to show up on Sunday. Two weeks in a row, the offensive line has left Cutler exposed. And it's been totally unenjoyable to watch the games.

For the last two weeks, I have been unable to watch the games live due to other events and travel. During the Saints game, I caught part of the third and fourth quarters live, but was then forced to watch the game even after I knew the Bears had lost. Not a fun way to end my Sunday night. Based on our plans for this weekend, I knew I would again be watching a game after I knew how it ended. I had my hopes up that I wouldn't have to watch another loss.

This Sunday I was travelling home from Door County. I went to college outside Green Bay at St. Norbert College where the Packers have training camp. As such, I have a lot of friends from Wisconsin...and most of them are Packers fans. And between the Brewers making the playoffs, with some help from the Cubs, and the Bears/Packers game, there was plenty of sports talk this weekend. My husband and I wore our Bears hats silently the whole weekend. It was one of those, "Let's just see what happens on Sunday" kind of weekends.

We headed out of Door County in time to realize we wouldn't catch any of the game on Chicago radio. Great, I thought, we get to listen to Packer backer radio, just what I was hoping for. With a pit stop in the middle of Wisconsin, we caught the start of the game. It was not pretty. The Packers scored in the first four minutes and the Bears were quickly down by seven. Cutler threw an interception and I knew it was going to be a long game.

Going into halftime only down by a touchdown, I thought we had a chance. At least that's what I was telling myself. But unfortunately, I got to hear most of the rest of the game on the radio. And I listened as the offensive line let Cutler get sacked time and time again. I listened as the Bears went down. And towards the end of the fourth quarter, my husband had enough. The radio was flipped off and a good friend kept me updated via text message. I knew we had made the right decision when the message "3rd and 33" came through.

It was a bad two games for the Bears. I knew the Saints game was going to be tough. Especially in New Orleans. And if anyone thought the Packer game was going to be easy, they were kidding themselves. The Packers watched how the Saints picked apart the Bears and they exploited the same things.

Aaron Rodgers had a great game. Jermichael Finley had three touchdowns. The Bears were held to 13 yards rushing—the least in over 40 years. The Bears were no match for the Packers and even though the final score only shows a 10-point swing, it might as well have been a blowout.

Next Sunday the Bears play the Carolina Panthers, who are also 1-2. One team will move back up to .500; the other team will be left with a lot of questions on what went wrong and how to right the ship.

Dear Bears—let's get a win. Because walking into Lions Stadium with a record of 1-3 while the Lions could be 4-0, well that's just unacceptable.
