The Next Great Computer for Us

Try living without your PC or Mac for a few days, and you'll see why gadgets won't replace them any time soon.

That great next computer is sitting right in front of you, if you’re on a PC or Mac. Yup that work horse old computer does more than any other computing device.

Let’s talk about those iPads, iPhones, tablets and other gadgets for a minute here. Those new toys don’t do productive things like balance the office data or aid those engineers making the next bridge across the Fox River, do they? They are just a blip on the technology map. I mean really, did you think working without a keyboard for an input device or some pointer device (mouse) was going to be the next great killer hardware?

The issue is, people are trained to work in the fastest input fashion around and for now (or until they figure away to hard wire us) we are keyboard bound. The gadgets we all buy are just extensions of our computer world, not really replacements for good old-fashioned computers we all love to hate. So if you think you can live life without Mr PC or Ms Mac then try this for a few days: no computer use!

Say it with me: "I love my PC, I Love my PC".

CAW (Cool Application of the Week) this week brings a special tool to back things up by synchronizing them on to an external thumb drive or hard drive. SyncToy 2.1 from Microsoft is free and gets it done. With little effort I have synced much of my office programming to external servers with just a few clicks. So head over to:

That’s it from the CAW HQ. Remember to backup and play nice with your gadgets.
