Industry News – No really you don’t say.

News and other happenings in the GEEK world.

Well I took a few days off to clear the GEEK mind and now I’m all ready to GEEK away. I thought an update with a few key things in the computer world would be in order.

Apple is tops or is that bottoms for dropping the GREEN Cert for its products. It seems that Apple no longer can be considered a GREEN partner because most of its product line can’t be recycled easily. Next is the upgrade news from Microsoft for Windows 8 if you have Windows XP, VISTA or Windows 7 you can upgrade for around $40.00 bucks.

The XMAS season for computer companies has started production so the lines have been set for models and features. It seems the hot ticket items will be announced over next five or six weeks. The big real release will be Windows 8 and a few tablets both DRIOD and Windows based but really nothing I’m all giddy about.

On the phone front the only really big news is that Windows 8 phones are going to be directed at the business market. The key here is that the phone will be like a mini tablet version with all the functional tools embedded so finally Windows Phones will be what they should have been all along “My Desktop”.

Notes on Droid phones are that ICS & Jelly Bean OS based phones will not be headed to the masses like so many people had hoped or OS upgrades to your current phones. The issue is that ANDROID based phones are hard to upgrade and the newer functions require better hardware (just like windows phones) so only newer based phones will have these new flavors of DROID OS.

Hardware shortages are all but over and so you can safely purchase RAM, Hard Drives and Video Upgrades knowing your dollars are going the full distance. Well that is about all I can see in that crystal ball like every summer it slows down for even the GEEKS of the world, maybe I should be like the Dog and curl up and take a long needed nap.

CAW (Cool Application of Week)

This past week saw a DNS root issue that could have sent computers into no connection. So with that I thought you should run to the FBI and check your computer. This site will be up for a few weeks check to see if your DNS server settings have correct pointers. If not follow the suggested fixes. I use Malwarebytes to keep safe and use it to sort out clients issues when things happen. So keep safe this summer and watch the kids on and off of the computer!
