Did You Think Paperless Today?

Save a tree, maybe!

I started thinking about all the paper saved by email today, heck I even thought about all the postage saved to be included in that number. Then I started to think did we really save paper or was it all just smoke and mirrors because I still have a desk full of paperwork.

The idea of paper savings started back in 1966 with ARPANET the precursor of the great internet which took almost thirty years from start to well start to become the real thing.  I remember talking with Hewlett Packard (HP) sales people about how this new Internet thing would affect laser printer sales in 1986. They looked at me and said well they thought it would kill their business for sure because people would just look at it and move on.

Well folks that didn’t happen, in fact the average user will print weekly 7 pages of stuff from the internet. Now that doesn’t seem like lots but here at the Nelsons we use way more some 100 pages weekly. The big reason isn’t business related but school related more than anything. Our bright kids will print lots of homework and then well there is “did you see this” printed copies and before you know it you have a mountain of paper.

I think for me and our small family paperless isn’t going to happen. The big reason is we need that paper trail on bills paid, homework, and other important enough to be printed documents in our hot little hands for comfort more than anything. So how do we break that chain of paper addiction, how are we really going to go paperless? I’m not sure there is an answer to how we will address the growing mountain of paper (Thank God for Recycling).

I do know if we just thought a little before we hit that print button what impact could be made on our wallets and yes those trees. One side note is our postal workers do need the work and income so I still have statements printed (Love my Montgomery Post Office People)!  So think before print is the lesson today and yes maybe the kids could just email those reports instead of printing them. What do you think or do you like that mountain of Paper-Full not LESS!

CAW (Cool Application of Week)

Something is missing and I can’t find it but I know it is here somewhere. BING Desktop to the rescue is the quickest ways to search the internet without opening a browser.

Did someone say two for? Yuup we have a quick tip for print screen. Did you know you can click on an active window and then hit (ALT-Print Scrn) to copy that active screen into the windows buffer? You then simply open a suitable program and paste it in.

Remember to watch those kids because they aren’t watching for you this summer. Drive SAFE!
