Cool Application of the Week: Watching Over Our Internet Kids

The kids of today are Internet savvy, and for many parents, the kids have the upper hand on you when it comes to the net. But you still are the parent, so here are a few quick steps to make sure our kids are safe on the Internet.

1. Place the family computer out in the open so everyone can see what’s up.
2. Talk about what is proper use of the family computer.
3. Make sure you know all the friends they are instant messaging.
4. Meet with the other parents, find out the complete rules in use at their homes.
5. Maybe hang out with them and get an understanding of what they are using and doing. This is a great way for you to learn also!
6. Set a time limit.
7. Use a Good Antivirus program.
8. If you have children that are thinking they can do anything, then look into a good parental control application. Something like K9 is a great start.

These all seem simple steps but the shocking fact is, many just do nothing.  Keeping our kids safe on the Internet is just like keeping them safe during school or at home – watch, listen, learn, and finally, teach.  These are the best steps to kids using the Internet.
