Adopt Me: Whiskers and Mr. Whiskers Rescued from Hoarding House

These two black cats are waiting for new homes at Kendall County Animal Control.

This week's Adopt Me feature comes from Kendall County Animal Control Warden Anna Payton. She wrote:

Meet Whiskers and Mr. Whiskers, two handsome 2 year old, Domestic Short Hair cats looking for their forever home.  With their shining, healthy black coats and outgoing personalities, you would never guess that these cats were rescued from horrendous living conditions.

In July of this year, Kendall County Animal Control was asked by some other county agencies to assist at home that had numerous cats inside.  Warned ahead of time that this was hoarding situation, Animal Control staff prepared itself to intake a large number of animals.  Pulling up to the unassuming home, one would never guess what was going on inside.

“Walking into the main area of the home, we were immediately overcome with the intense smell of ammonia and feces,” stated Anna Payton, Kendall County Animal Control Warden.  “The amount of stuff and filth in the home was unbelievable.  There were very few places that you could actually see and walk on the floor.  The fact that anything was living in these conditions is incredibly heart breaking.”

The cats were immediately brought to the vet hospital and given full exams.  Whiskers and Mr. Whiskers were dewormed and received their distemper vaccine.  They tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV.  The vet discovered their only main health concern was ear infections, and they have been treated.

Whiskers and Mr. Whiskers are currently available for adoption at Kendall County Animal Control located at 802 W. John St., off of Route 34 in Yorkville.  They are the last cats from the hoarding situation and have been patiently waiting for their forever home.  They are both very social and enjoy being around people.  They will politely meow for your attention and touch.  They also are playful and like a variety of toys.  Can you give one of these cats the second chance they deserve?  Please come in and meet these wonderful cats today!  For more information, please visit www.co.kendall.il.us/animal_control or call 630-553-9256.
