On March 29, Heather Jacobi's life ended in what friends call a senseless domestic violence crime.

Now, Jacobi's ex-boyfriend stands accused of the murder of the 32-year-old nurse and mother of three, who left behind children Alexis, 12; Xander, 10; and Abbie, 7.

Friends are rallying behind the family in the wake of the tragedy by hosting "Love Shouldn't Hurt," a benefit to raise money for the Heather Rose Jacobi Family Fund and to spread domestic violence awareness.

A benefit is planned for noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Stone City Saloon, 721 N. Independence Boulevard in Romeoville.

Jacobi, a Romeoville native, was a registered nurse for the DuPage County Sheriff's Department and a member of Yellow Box Community Christian Church in Naperville.

"Above all, she was a beautiful, kind and amazing person and mother," a flier for the event reads.

The event will include a 50/50 raffle, bags tournament (at 2 p.m.) and drink specials. There will also be a formal raffle and items for sale including wristbands and men's and women's T-shirts. All proceeds will benefit the Jacobi family fund.

Jose Loera, 35, is charged with murder in Jacobi's death, accused of strangling the mom of three in her Aurora apartment. He is being held on $5 million bond.

In addition to the June 7 fundraiser, an online benefit has also been launched in Jacobi's name.
