Oswego Mom Looks to Break Fundraising Record in Memory of Daughter

Help Team Caitlin break records in this year's neurofibromatosis walk in Naperville.

A year after losing her daughter to cancer, an Oswego mom is looking to build the largest team ever — and raise the most donations ever — for the annual Great Steps 4NF Walk.

Oswego East graduate Caitlin Ostrom, 20, died in November. She was diagnosed with cancer after fighting a lifelong battle against neurofibromatosis, a syndrome that can cause the growth of tumors on various areas of the body.

Mom Christine Christiansen said her goal is to raise $15,000 to fight the neurofibromatosis. NF Midwest Will host the Great Steps 4NF Walk on June 21 in Naperville.

Christiansen said Team Caitlin will wear yellow "Caitlin's Promise" T-shirts and white tutus in honor of Ostrom's favorite flower, the daisy.

If the team meets its goal, two members — a husband and wife — are willing to shave their heads, Christiansen said. The husband will even shave his beard and mustache for the cause, she added.
