Fundraiser Benefits Oswego Family After Devastating Fire

A fundraiser has been launched to help a family of six after a May 8 electrical fire.

An Oswego family lost nearly everything when an electrical fire broke out at their Route 31 home on May 8.

Relatives of the family — parents Kristin Rich and CJ Reyes and their four children — have launched an online fundraiser after the devastating blaze.

"Thankfully no one was hurt, but almost everything was destroyed," a cousin wrote on a fundly.com site dedicated to the family. "Unfortunately they do not have insurance so every little amount makes a big difference."

Making matters worse, the fire happened on the couple's oldest daughter's birthday.

Donations of clothing and toys are being accepted in the following sizes for the kids:
  • Daughter Alexia, 12: size 14-16
  • Daughter Isabelle, 9: size 10-12
  • Daughter Lilly, 7: size 7
  • Son CJ, 7: size 8-10
To donate items, click the "contact Erin" button on the fundraiser site to get drop-off address information.

Monetary donations can also be made on the site.

Relatives expressed the family's gratitude to the first responders who battled the blaze. A firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion following the May 8 blaze, officials said.

"An extra shout-out to the Oswego, Plainfield, Bristol-Kendall, and Montgomery Fire Departments for responding and putting out the blaze," the family said. "Everyone was so courteous. As they were walking through the house to put out the blaze they were even taking picture frames and scrapbooks off the walls and placing them under tarps. Thank you all for doing what you do every day."
