Habitat for Humanity orientation, application distribution
Habitat for Humanity to offer information, applications
AURORA, Ill.--Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity will hold two orientation
meetings for prospective homeowners.
Information and applications for Habitat's program will be offered at 7
p.m. on Thursday, July 19, and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 21.
Both sessions will be held at Genesis Community Church, 1300 S. Broadway in
Montgomery. Spanish-language translation will be provided. The public is
invited. Meeting attendance is requred to receive an application.
Rev. Jeffrey Barrett, Fox Valley Habitat executive director and Genesis
church pastor, will preside. He will be assisted by Ron Kelso, Habitat vice
president; and Samantha Krilich, chair of the Family Selection Committee. A
current Habitat homeowner is also expected to attend.
Rev. Barrett said, "At these meetings, future homeowners will hear about Fox Valley
Habitat for Humanity and its’mission of Home Ownership for God’s people in
need."
He said Habitat's
program is open to area residents unable to obtain adequate housing through
conventional means. Applicants must have a steady low- to medium income, be
able to pay a
no-interest mortgage and to give 350 to 500 hours of sweat equity--volunteer
work--on their or other Habitat
homes.
To qualify for consideration,
applicants must complete an application under deadlines;
provide supplemental documentation as required;
complete 10 Hours of sweat equity before selection; be interviewed
by the Family Selection Committee; and be approved by the Fox Valley
Habitat board of directors.
According to Rev.
Barrett, approved applicants receive home ownership through rehab or
new construction; a no-interest mortgage; payments tailored to ability to
pay;
stable home environment; building of financial equity;
and new friendships for life.
