Find A Cure Barbeque Benefit

Larry Meredith's friends and family are joining together with two days of events to raise money for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure. Meredith, who will participate in the walk for the fifth year, is a resident of Horicon, Wisconsin, but close ties to his nine brothers and sisters, as well as old high school friends, have generated a flurry of grassroots support in Dekalb county and the Aurora area.

The first event, "Find a Cure Barbeque Benefit". will take place April 29. Organized by Meredith's sister, Pam Pederson and her friend, Tonya Barkdoll,  barbeque pulled pork sandwich or hot open faced turkey sandwich meals will be available for dining or carry out for $10. The food will be provided by Sly Fox BBQ and Calla Lily Salon, Spa and Tearoom. The event takes place at the tearoom, 1033 S. Lincoln Ave. in Aurora from 4-8 pm. To show your support of breast cancer awareness, pink hair extensions can be added to your natural hair for $10. Call 630-340-5375 for more information about the Find a Cure Barbeque Benefit.

The second event will be held the next evening, April 30. For the second year, "Old Fat Guy Idol" will take place at Pub West, in Waterman on April 30, 7:30 - 11 pm. "Old Fat Guy Idol" is a singing competition between Meredith and two of his friends from high school, Chuck Wesenberg and Bob Strausberger. The audience votes for their favorite signer by giving a donation to the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure. The singer who collects the most donations will be the winner. In addition to the Old Fat Guy Idol competition, there will be live music all evening, a 50/50 raffle, raffle prizes, and food. There is no cover charge for the event. Pub West is located at 100 E. Adams St. in Waterman. Call 815-264-3736 for more information.
