Linking music, brain function: Aurora University topic Nov. 20

A ragtime music pianist and a university neurologist will team up to explore music and brain function at Aurora University on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

"Mindplays of a Ragtime Pianist: A Journey into Brain Function and the Neuroscience of Music," will be presented at 7 p.m. in Crimi Auditorium, 1347 Prairie St. in Aurora.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

Co-presenters will be Kerstin Bettermann, associate professor of neurology at Penn State College of Medicine, and pianist Bob Milne.

Milne is the father of AU biology professor Carrie Milne-Zelman of Malta.

An extraordinary musician, despite having never practiced, Bob Milne uses his natural ability to hear and play music.

He performs multiple, complex rhythms simultaneously while discussing the history of ragtime music.

Bettermann will analyze Milne's talent and address what sscientists have learned about brain function and the neuroscience of music during past centuries.

Reservations are not required. For more information, contact auartsandideas@aurora.edu or call (630) 844-4924.
