Local art and live music will again take over the idyllic tree-lined pedestrian area known as Water Street Mall in Aurora’s downtown on the last Saturday of August. Alley Art Festival, a grassroots effort that brings the community together with over 50 local artists and a dozen musicians, returns to Water Street Mall on Saturday, Aug. 31. Local artists look forward to the festival all year long as a way to show off their latest creations, including paintings, sculptures, handmade wares, jewelry, zines, screen prints, books, and more. Alley Art Festival welcomes local artists and artisans to creatively set up along the pedestrian mall and encourages artists to bring their own style to the festival. In previous years, artists have sketched portraits, stamped leather items, painted with children, and provided face-in-the-hole photo opportunities. “It’s really a day of fun for artists and the whole community. We have a town filled with amazing artists, and the festival gives them an opportunity to shine while engaging passerby in the arts,” said festival organizer Marissa Amoni. The festival, always the last Saturday in August, runs from noon to 5 p.m. with artists, musicians, food vendors, and more on Water Street Mall between Downer Place and Galena Boulevard just west of Broadway in downtown Aurora.
