Weekender: Dog Treats, Pumpkin Races and a Benefit

What are you up to this weekend? If you don't know yet, Patch has your back. Here are some events you can put on your calendar.

Friday, Oct. 21

Whose Line? Comedy Improv Show
When: 8 p.m., with an adult show at 10 p.m.
Where: The Comedy Shrine, 4034 Fox Valley Center Drive, Aurora
Why go: Improv comedy is tough, and if it’s pulled off well, it can be the funniest kind. This local show is based on Whose Line Is It Anyway, and includes audience participation.
Cost: $20 with a one-drink minimum.

Saturday, Oct. 22

Go Dog Go Tricks, Treats and Belly Rubs
When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Go Dog Go, 100 Main St., Oswego
Why go: This event, which includes a pet costume contest, a face painter and games for kids, will also include a selection of adoptable animals courtesy of Reach Out Rescue.
Cost: Free

Oswegoland Optimist Club Pumpkin Races
When: 11 a.m.
Where: Downtown Oswego
Why go: Check out the crazy races or get some chili from the Keith's Car Car Chili Cookoff. You can hardly go wrong here.
Cost: Three canned goods per entry to benefit the Oswegoland Optimist Club's Christmas Families Project.

When: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Where: Fox River Academy of Music and Art, 4785 Rt. 71, Oswego
Why go: Students will learn all about Dias de los Muertes, the Mexican Day of the Dead, and create art inspired by the holiday.
Cost: $80 for class fee and supply costs.


When: 3 p.m.
Where: Mike and Denise's Pizzaria 1760 N Farnsworth Ave, Aurora
Why go: Help establish a memorial fund for the children of Brandi Murphy, who was killed as the result of domestic violence.
Cost:  $20 each in advance, with kids 6 and up $10; $25 at the door, with kids 6 and up $15, kids 5 and under free.

Sunday, Oct. 23


When 10 a.m.
Where 2285 Cornell Ave, Montgomery
Why go Activities include dog & cat adoptions, a tour of the facility, and Aquatic Treadmill demonstrations.  There will be many great items to be raffled with the proceeds benefiting the Pet Food Division of the Kendall County Food Pantry.
Cost Free, but donations are being accepted for the Pet Food Division of the Kendall County Food Pantry.
