Weather Service Says 3 to 6 Inches of Snow Possible Through Evening

The National Weather Service-Chicago has issued a Winter Weather Advisory and Hazardous Weather Outlook for our neck of the woods.

The Chicago arm of the National Weather Service is saying snow is possible this afternoon and tonight for Montgomery and much of northern Illinois.

According to this Winter Weather Advisory, a period of heavy snowfall is expected late this afternoon and this evening. The storm system is rapidly developing and will rapidly deepen as colder air is drawn into the system.

Rain will turn into snow mix by early afternoon and become outright snow by late this afternoon or early evening. It might be as fast and hard as an inch an hour—and we might get as much as 3 to 6 inches.

The weather advisory is in place from 3 to 9 p.m.

Quick accumulation of the predicted snow will make driving this afternoon and evening potentially hazardous, according to the weather service.

There will be high liquid content to the snow, so be careful shoveling and watch out for weighted-down branches and power lines.

Yes, we know what you're thinking. Last time, the National Weather Service predicted snowfall, it never materialized in this area. But it's better to be safe than sorry. So be careful driving home.
