Heavy Rains Bring Flood Warnings, Power Outages

ComEd is reporting almost 60,000 customers without power Thursday morning.

Back-to-back days of sunshine and extreme heat came to a screeching halt Wednesday night as severe thunderstorms brought heavy downpours and power outages to much of the Chicago area.

ComEd spokesman Tony Hernandez said that as of 9 a.m. Thursday, 59,769 ComEd customers were without power. He said 9,584 of those are in the western region of Chicago, which includes Montgomery, Oswego and Yorkville. ComEd's outage map shows the Aurora region—which includes Montgomery—had between 500 and 3,000 customers without power Thursday morning.

Fox River levels in Oswego and Montgomery remained below flood stages as of 8 a.m. Thursday, according the the National Weather Service.

Rain continues Thursday

The National Weather Service is predicting heavy rain in Montgomery through the morning hours, although it is expected to clear after 10 a.m. According to a hazardous weather outlook issued Thursday morning, thunderstorms are possible this afternoon into this evening, as well as after midnight.

There is a flash flood warning in effect until 11:30 a.m.

The Kendall County Sheriff's Department has issued a warning to motorists, due to large puddles of standing water on the county's roadways. Some secondary roads in the county are impassable, according to Deputy Craig French.

If you cannot see the bottom of a pool of water, don't drive through it, find an alternate route, French said.
