Portions of Route 25 Closed; River Street Homes Flooding

This is the latest information from District 308:

Due to the impending weather conditions and conversations with local law enforcement and emergency personnel, School District 308 will close schools at the following times:

  • High Schools: Students riding the bus will be dismissed at noon All other students will be dismissed at the scheduled early dismissal time of 12:20 p.m.
  • Junior High Schools: Students riding the bus will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m. All other students will be dismissed at the scheduled early dismissal time of 1 p.m.
  • Elementary Schools: ALL ELEMENTARY STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AT 1:30 p.m.

Any parent who desires to pick up their child between now and the end of the school day, please do so.

All after school activities, meetings and professional development sessions are cancelled.

WATCH: District 308 Superintendent Defends Decision to Open Schools

Due to the inclement weather, all after-school activities in East Aurora School District 131 are CANCELLED for today, Thursday April 18, 2013. Staff may leave the building once students have safely been dismissed. This also includes Kindergarten registration.

Students at Oswego 308 may leave school early so long as the school has spoken directly to a parent, said a secretary at the Oswego 308 administration center. Students that drove themsleves to school are allowed to leave on their own, but only if the school has spoken directly to a parent.

"At this time there is no decision to end school early," said the school secretary. Classes will end at the 5-hour early attendance day as originally scheduled.

All Oswegoland Park District programs, including As We Grow Preschool, have been cancelled for the day. Afternoon Kid's Connection and Junior Kid's Connection have also been cancelled. All Park District buildings will be closed at noon. The Board Meeting scheduled for this evening has not been cancelled.

From the city of Aurora the following major roads are closed:

  • Farnsworth Avenue between Indian Trail and Mountain Street 
  • Broadway Avenue (Rt. 25) between Pierce Street and the U.S. Post Office 
  • 75th Street between Routes 34 (Ogden Av.) and 59 
  • South Eola Road between Montgomery Road and 87th Street 
  • Route 34 (Ogden Av.) eastbound at Long Grove 
  • Orchard Road between Galena and Prairie is 1 lane in each direction.

Oswego Police Department advises everyone to stay off the roadways due to extreme flooding in the area. Please watch the Village’s Facebook pages and email alerts for continual updates.

From the village of Montgomery: Route 25 is closed just south of Boulder Hill Pass due to a flooded viaduct and homes along North River Street are flooding. Stormwater detention basins are full and beginning to overflow.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office has numerous roads that have been reported as impassible.
Some of the roads that have been reported as impassible are:
Joliet Road 
Walker Road
Schlapp Road
Plainfield Road at Cherry Road
Grove Road south of Route 126
Chicago Road in Platteville
Sandy Bluff Road 
Minkler Road 
Budd Road
Several streets in Boulder Hill
Route 25

There are several other roads that are impassible and the list keeps growing as the weather continues.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office once again wants to remind residents to avoid travel on the roadways until the conditions have improved. If someone is out on the roadways we want to remind them do not attempt to drive through standing water.

According to the National Weather Service, the Fox River at Montgomery was at 13.2 feet at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday. Moderate flooding is expected, and the river will continue to rise to 14.8 feet Friday morning.

The Oswego Police posted the following on their Facebook page:

Fox River will crest at 13.4ft on Friay, April 19 at approx. 7 a.m. This is a guess based on the forecasted rain.
Flood Stage: 13.0ft. for Fox River
Moderate Stage: 14.0ft for Fox River
Major Stage: 15.0ft for Fox River

Higher rainfall totals are expected North of Oswego into Lake County, possibly as much as 6" of rain.

Severe weather his headed for the Fox Valley region Wednesday and Thursday and those living along the Fox River should be prepared for rising flood waters, according to the National Weather Service.

Several periods of heavy showers and thunderstorms are predicted for the next two days and could increase the threat of the Fox River flooding in the Oswego and Montgomery area. A flood advisory will remain in effect in Montgomery until Tuesday, April 23.  

Tuesday the river measured 12.8 inches in Montgomery and flood stage is 13 feet.

In Oswego the village’s Public Works Department is offering sandbags for residents who may need them. Residents need to fill the bags themselves and about 1000 are available.
