Come Blog With Me

Your faithful editor would love to see a whole bunch of new bloggers on Patch. If you're interested, email andre.salles@patch.com.

You may recall that earlier this month, I laid out my Patch resolutions for 2012. And one of them, you may remember, was to engage more Montgomery community members as bloggers.

There’s a section on the site called “Local Voices,” and it’s dedicated solely to blogs from folks just like you, who read Patch and want to contribute. Some sites in our region have put together a thriving little family of bloggers, and that’s something I’d like to see happen on this site as well.

I have some good ones already—Greg Nelson, Rick Helfrich, Theresa Sperling. But I'd like more. And to do that, I’ll need your help. So here’s my pitch.

Patch is a news site, that much is true. But it has the potential to be so much more than that. The possibility of community is woven into its framework. Sure, you can simply read the site—I’m grateful for everyone who does, and I’m glad to keep providing all the news and information about Montgomery that I can.

But Patch is more interactive than that. It’s a place where you can have a voice, and let that voice be heard. I’ve been trying to encourage that, with our weekly feature and our and all the other ways we ask for your opinion and your input.

The calendar and announcements board are open for you too—if you know of an interesting event coming up, or if your school or church is doing something cool, you can add those to the Patch site yourself. You don’t have to wait for me to give you press, you can do it yourself, and have it seen by thousands of people.

Blogging is just a natural extension of that. As a community, we all have different perspectives on things, and each of us is good at something others may not be. I don’t want Patch to be just my voice—that’s no good for anyone, as even my closest friends will tell you. I want your voices on here too.

Are you plugged into the local sports scene? Fantastic. We desperately need that perspective here. Are you a new parent, or someone with lots of experience raising children? Both of those topics would make for great blogs. Have a neat job? Tell us about it. Have an interesting perspective on movies, or art, or politics? We want to hear about it.

Blogging on Patch is incredibly simple. You can blog as often or as infrequently as you like, and while we can’t pay, you will own your words. You’ll also be a part of something, a community of voices talking about what it is to live in Montgomery.

I think that sounds pretty neat. If you do too, shoot me an email at andre.salles @patch.com and I’ll get you set up right away. And thanks for reading, and for adding your voice.
