“Veteran job candidates bring highly sought-after skills to workplaces,” Baker said.

‘As more and more enter the candidate pool, the need for human resources professionals to effectively assess those skills and find an appropriate fit is increasingly important.”

According to Baker, more than 1 million military personnel are expected to transition to civilian life in the next few years.

Baker is a member of the SHRM Illinois state council board of directors and chairs the group’s annual conference. She is a frequent speaker on recruiting and job-search topics.
