What's All That Building Construction on Route 34?

The area will have some new retail establishments in the future, with a few slated to open by October and November.

If you've driven down Route 34 recently you've likely noticed several construction projects happening in the retail areas.

But what exactly are they building?

Driving down Douglas road headed towards 34 you may have spotted a large, gated off area with construction vehicles across from the Meijer parking lot.

That right there is going to be the new Panera Bread location.

Back in January the Village Board approved for the Oswego Panera Bread to move from its current location, in the Oswego Commons in the 2900 block of Route 34, to the Gerry Centennial Plaza, 1400 block of Douglas.

The move will allow the Panera to have a drive-thru.

The Panera will be with two other units, which may be for a potential laundromat with a valet service and an additional retail space.

Further down the road along Route 34 near the Oswego Wal-Mart is another group of gated off construction. This section will house a Potbelly's, Noodles & Company and Supercuts along with an urgent-care clinic.

Louis Schriber III, of Shorewood Development Group that is developing the property, earlier told Patch they expect all the retail tenants to open sometime in October or November.

And although there is no construction yet at a third location, there will be soon.

Village Economic Development Director Vijay Gadde confirmed that a Pier 1 Imports will eventually be built next to the ULTA in the 2500 block of Route 34.
