Montgomery Kmart Closing Soon

Merchandise has been discounted.

A business in Montgomery will soon be shuttering its doors.

Kmart, located at 1900 Douglas Road, Montgomery, has posted closings signs all around the store and an employee confirmed that the location will be closing sometime in mid-March.

Charlene Coulombe-Fiore, executive director of the Montgomery Economic Development Corporation, said Kmart still has some time left on their lease.

Kmart does not own the property, but Coulombe-Fiore said in her past experience that Kmart has restrictions on who can move into the property.

RCG Ventures purchased the shopping center, Settler’s Landing, Kmart is located in back in February of 2011.

Settler’s Landing was built in 1984 and was once one of the largest of its kind in Kendall County. It housed a Kmart, Dominick’s, and Walgreens, as well as several smaller stores. But within the past 12 years, both Dominick’s and Walgreens moved out of the center, and only Planet Fitness has moved in.

“We’ve been keeping an eye on the property for a while,” said Coulombe-Fiore, who added that nationally Kmart has been under “a lot of scrutiny.”

Merchandise is being reported discounted at Kmart, according to Patch readers.

Kmart is owned by the Sears Holdings Corporation.
