Help Shape Montgomery's Future at Community Workshop Thursday

The Village of Montgomery is beginning the process of creating a Comprehensive Plan called “Go Montgomery.” They are reaching out to residents, property owners, and other stakeholders from throughout the community for input.

A meeting is scheduled from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27 at the Montgomery Library, 1111 Reading Drive. This is the second in a series of workshops. The first workshop was held June 12.

The workshop will be an interactive experience designed to review, discuss, and identify conditions and potentials within Montgomery. The results and feedback from the workshops, along with other community outreach activities, will be used to identify community priorities and objectives, and will serve as the foundation for Go Montgomery’s direction.

So far, residents have come up with the following suggestions that the village shared on its Facebook page.

  • Create a shopping and entertainment destination along Orchard Road.
  • Build a recreation center downtown, near river, with indoor/outdoor activities. Includes river activities, outdoor concert venue, festivals, and farmers market.
  • Put a Metra Station Downtown.

  • Already given your input? Head on over to Montgomery Park at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27 for a concert featuring Juke Box Band. This band can play virtually any pop tune from modern pop to classic rock to blues to country, etc. The band involves its audiences in sing-alongs and group dances and by taking requests. Every show is different because the crowd picks the songs. Just bring a blanket or lawn chair. Food vendors will be on hand to provide refreshments.
