Business Bonding: JC Penney Fashion Consultant Helps Bring Trends Home

Stephanie Hulvey is the store's new fashion expert, and she is ready to help anyone in need of outfit advice.

Editor's note: The following is a press release from the village of Montgomery.

Fashion can be intimidating to the average consumer. Creating outfits, matching separates and successfully accessorizing are skills many shoppers only wish they had. Patrons of the Montgomery JC Penney, however, have a fashion ally.

Stephanie Hulvey is the store’s new fashion expert, and she is ready to help anyone in need of outfit advice.

Instead of forking over big fees for a personal stylist, JC Penney shoppers can book a free, personalized fashion consultation with Hulvey right at the store. Hulvey starts a client’s session by learning what a client is looking for and what they are comfortable wearing. Then, she’ll help them create outfits from the store’s merchandise.

Whether it’s a search for business attire, a special occasion outfit or just some casual closet updates, a consultation is shaped by the customers’ needs. Customers get to try on outfits with Hulvey standing by, giving some honest feedback and offering alternatives. Hulvey doesn’t pressure customers to make purchases or try on items they don’t like.

“The atmosphere is very relaxed,” Hulvey said. “Everyone should feel comfortable.”

Shoppers that use Hulvey’s services don’t pay extra, and she doesn’t receive commission on items purchased. “Everything is done to help the customer,” Hulvey said.  Hulvey said her position is new to the store and to the company. She started in September, and the fashion expert position is part of JC Penney’s pursuit of better customer service.

“JC Penney has a new CEO, and everything we do is meant to help customers look and live better,” Hulvey said. The chain has also rolled out a more affordable pricing structure and is emphasizing its trend-ready merchandise.

“The store has made an amazing transformation,” Hulvey said. “Not only do I love my work, I love shopping here too.”

Not only does Hulvey love that her job is in fashion, but she takes great joy in helping others use trends and good style to their advantage.

“My favorite part is when I get to help a customer with self-confidence issues,” Hulvey said. “I love helping them learn that they can look great with the right clothes.”

Customers that would like to make an appointment with Hulvey can call JC Penney, 1100 Ogden Ave., at 630-851-5019.
