Approximately 600 students from McDole Elementary in Montgomery will be walking to school along with parents and teachers.

Walkers are to make their way from Simpson Avenue and Gordon and arrive at the school at 8:30 a.m.

In 2012, International Walk to School Day was celebrated at more than 4,000 events at schools across the United States, along with children and adults in 40 countries around the world.

Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasizes the importance of increasing physical activity, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment.

McDole Elementary and the PTO are organizing the event.
