 Reagan biographer, art exhibits, film screening highlight Aurora University September events

 AURORA, Ill.— A commentary on the life and legacy of Ronald Reagan by Douglas Brinkley, CBS News commentator, art exhibits at the Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures and a film screening and discussion highlight September events at Aurora University. 

Events are free to the public except where a fee is indicated. The schedule is:

Sept. 13: 5 to 7 p.m., a Master of Science in Nursing information session will be held in Perry Theatre atrium in the Aurora Foundation Center, 1305 Kenilworth Place. Information: (630) 844-5294.

Sept. 15: 7:30 p.m. The Joel Moore Quartet will open the Third Thursday faculty music series with a jazz concert in Crimi Auditorium at the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. Information: (630) 844-4577.

Sept. 19: 7:30 p.m. Douglas Brinkley, history commentator for CBS News, a contributing editor for Vanity Fair, The Los Angeles Times Book Review and American Heritage and Ronald Reagan biographer, will open the 2011-2012 Celebrating Arts and Ideas series with insight into the former president’s life and legacy. Brinkley will speak in Crimi Auditorium at the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. Reservations are required. Sept. 20: 7 p.m. The 2011-12 film series will open with “The White Ribbon” in Perry Theatre in the Aurora Foundation Center at 1305 Kenilworth Place. Barbara Strassberg, professor of  sociology, will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion. Information: (630) 844-4924.

Sept. 20: 4:30 p.m., “Manifest Destiny,” an art exhibit by Native American artist Larry McNeil (Tlingit, Nisga) through Dec. 16, will open with a reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and a lecture by the artist from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Schingoethe Art Gallery in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place. Sept. 29: 7:30 a.m., “Legal Update for Illinois Employers," a workshop, will be presented at 8 a.m. by the HR Institute in the University Banquet Hall in Dunham Hall, 1410 Marseillaise Place in Aurora.
