Aurora ArtWalk Lures Folks to "the Other Side"

The 6th annual Aurora ArtWalk brought art and people to the east side of downtown on Friday night.

On the east side of Broadway, just east of the train overpass, a long stretch between Downer Place and Benton Street is lined with historic buildings.

It's called LaSalle Street, and it was once known as "Auto Row," since many of the buildings were built in the late 1800s and early 1900s for selling and servicing automobiles.

On Friday night, the sixth annual Aurora ArtWalk reinvented the downtown block as a lively arts district that some patrons were comparing to Chicago's famed Wicker Park.

Local artists filled four large venues on LaSalle Street with paintings, photography, music and performance art. All previous ArtWalks have been held on the west side of the train tracks and patrons were eating up the new location.

The ArtWalk is organized by the all-volunteer group the Cultural Creatives, and is sponsored by Aurora Downtown. Learn more at here.
