Winter Storm Warning Issued; Six to 10 Inches of Snow Possible
The winter storm warning has been issued for most of northwestern Illinois from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday.

Between six to 10 inches of snow is now expected for parts of the Chicago area overnight Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
This morning, the National Weather Service upgraded a winter weather watch to a winter storm warning, which will be in effect from 9 p.m. Friday evening through 6 p.m. Saturday for much of the area. The warning includes DuPage, Will, McHenry, Lake, Cook, Kendall and Grundy counties.
Snow is expected to develop late this evening and will increase with intensity after midnight. Snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour are possible mid-morning Saturday while the snow is expected to end by early Saturday evening.
"Snow-covered roads and low visibilities will make travel hazardous from late this evening through early Saturday evening," according to the NWS. "Travel through Chicago O'Hare and Midway airports could also be significantly impacted."
A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are in the forecast that will make travel dangerous.
The National Weather Service cautions driver to only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in the case of an emergency.
