Weekend Grab Bag: Veterans, Movies and Mud Volleyball

What fun are you going to pull out this weekend and beyond? Local events abound in the Patch lands of Montgomery, Oswego and Yorkville.

Friday, July 15

Chow Down with an American Hero, Kendall County 4-H Building, Yorkville
The Scoop: Honor Flight Chicago is helping to send WWII Veterans to Washington D.C. Sponsored by Kendall County Salute to Veterans. Dinner $30.
Inside Info: The Legacy Girls trio will perform timeless favorites.

Downtown Alive! Fan Favorites, Aurora
The Scoop: Downtown Alive! brings rocking outdoor concerts to downtown Aurora's North River Street Park. 6 to 10 p.m. $3.
Inside Info: Dbl-Shot will open with high energy 80s rock followed by the Beatles tribute band American English.

Movie Night: Kung Fu Panda, Yorkville
The Scoop: Movies begin at 9 p.m. at , 908 Game Farm Rd. Free.
Inside Info: Movies start at dusk. Bring your lawn chair, blankets, and family and friends for movie night on our 30-foot inflatable screen.

Saturday, July 16

Saturday Morning Stories, Oswego Public Library, Oswego and Montgomery campuses.
The Scoop: Stories and fun for kiddos ages 2 to 6. 10 a.m. Free.
Inside Info: Story time will last about 20 minutes.

Mud Volleyball Tournament, 3201 Orchard Rd, Oswego
The Scoop: The Oswego Optimist Club is holding its annual Mud Volleyball tournament July 16 at Allied First Bank. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Teams must register. 
Inside Info: This is a new venue and a new weekend, they have also doubled the mud pits from two to four at the new location.

Super Screen Saturday Nights, Aurora
The Scoop: Watch a movie outdoors at Phillips Park. Free.
Inside Info: The Sandlot will show at approximately 9 p.m. Pre-show festivities start at 8 p.m.

Oswego Country Market, 15 Main St., Oswego
The Scoop: Every Sunday through September, this fresh-air market is full of locally grown produce, meat, eggs, fresh flowers, specialty food items and more. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Inside Info: Look for Tom's Organic Produce for farm-fresh summer treats.

Chess and other Medieval Games, Oswego Public Library, 32 W. Jefferson St, Oswego
The Scoop: Ages 7 -14 are welcome to play chess and other games. All skill levels welcome. 1 to 2:30 p.m. Free.
