Weekend Grab Bag: Montgomery Fest and More

What fun are you going to pull out this weekend and beyond? Local events abound in the Patch lands of Montgomery, Oswego and Yorkville.

Friday, August 12

Creating Mexican American Identities: Multiple Voices, Shared Dreams, Art & History Center, 20 E. Downer, Aurora
The Scoop: A Mexican immigration exhibit produced by the West Chicago City Museum, augmented with historic Aurora images from the Aurora Historical Society. 5 to 7 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: There will be food from local Oaxacan restaurant, La Palapa, music and a cash bar.

Music Under the Stars, Yorkville
The Scoop: Enjoy a warm summer evening listening to Fast Eddy & the Corvettes in Yorkville's Town Square. 7 to 9 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: Wine night starts at 5:30 p.m.

Downtown Alive!, North River Street Park, Aurora
The Scoop: It's time for Rock on the Fox, the last in the downtown concert series for the summer. 6 to 10 p.m. $3.
Inside Info: 28 Days and 7th Heaven will rock the fenced area just north of New York Street near the Fox River Trail. It's free to set up chairs or a blanket outside of the fence.

Saturday, August 13

Farmers' Market, Town Square Park, Yorkville
The Scoop: Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon through Oct. 29.
Inside Info: Offerings will include farm-grown vegetables, baked goods and fresh roasted coffee.

Louche Puce Market, Water Street Mall, Aurora
The Scoop: More than a dozen eclectic vendors take over tree-lined Water Street Mall in downtown Aurora to sell their vintage, collectible and antique wares. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: Water Street Mall is between Galena and Downer, next to City Hall. Street parking on Broadway and Downer, lot parking on Water Street off of Benton Street.

Montgomery Fest, , Montgomery
The Scoop: Montgomery Fest will feature carnival rides, a craft show, pony rides and a petting zoo, food, a car show and other entertainment. 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: Civil War reenactment activities will take place north of Riverside Cemetery. Click here for a full schedule of events.

Pajama Pool Party, Civic Center, 313 E. Washington St., Oswego
The Scoop: Relax under the stars on your raft or tube at the Civic Center. Enjoy a movie or games on the deck. 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. $4.
Inside Info: Bring your PJs and a blanket for when the night cools off. Popcorn and drink included.

Sunday, August 14

Oswego Country Market, Downtown Main Street, Oswego
The Scoop: Every Sunday through September, this fresh-air market is full of locally grown produce, meat, eggs, fresh flowers, specialty food items and more. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Inside Info: Look for Tom's Organic Produce for farm-fresh summer treats.

Montgomery Fest, Montgomery Park, Montgomery
The Scoop: Montgomery Fest will feature carnival rides, a craft show, pony rides and a petting zoo, food, a car show and other entertainment. 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: A car show will be held in Austin Park at Route 25 and Mill Street. Click here for a full schedule of events.

Montgomery Fest Parade, 420 N. Main St., Montgomery
The Scoop: The parade kicks off from the Lyon Metal parking lot. 1 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: Clarence Bark is this year's Grand Marshal. Bark, 88, served on the Plan Commission for many years. 

Concerts in the Park, Hudson Park Crossing, Oswego
The Scoop: Join the Village of Oswego for a free concert in the park on featuring the band Back Alley. 12:30 to 3 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: Don’t forget to bring your blankets, lawn chairs, snacks and beverages and enjoy!
