Weekend Grab Bag: Knights, Kings, Kayaks and a Book Signing

What fun are you going to pull out this weekend and beyond? Local events abound in the Patch lands of Montgomery, Oswego and Yorkville.

Friday, July 22

Music Under the Stars, Town Square, Yorkville
The Scoop: Enjoy a warm summer evening listening to great music in Yorkville's Town Square. Waubonsee Community College Jazz Band plays. Free.
Inside Info: Wine night begins at 5:30 p.m. 

, Paramount Theatre, 23 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora
The Scoop:  will put on a showing of The King and I, about an English widow summoned by the King of Siam to serve as a tutor to his wives and children in Bangkok. Shows Friday through Sunday. $7/students $9/adult
Inside Info: Summer Stage cast is comprised of youth, teen and adult performers. Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner will make a cameo appearance in both Saturday shows. Call the Paramount box office at 630-896-6666.

Saturday, July 23

Paddle for Parks, Fox River, Montgomery/Oswego/Yorkville
The Scoop: Kayak or canoe the scenic Fox River in support of the Oswegoland Park and Recreation Foundation. Paddle from Montgomery to Hudson Crossing Park for a delicious riverside lunch, and continue on to Yorkville where shuttles await to take participants back to their cars. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. $45.
Inside Info: Fee includes kayak or canoe rental from Paddle & Trail in Aurora, shuttle, and lunch with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Park Foundation. Rain date July 24.

The Scoop: Local author of Geneva, Aurora and A Song for Cecilia will be signing copies of her latest local book, Montgomery. 1 to 3 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: Buona Beef is donating two $10 gift certificates at the door, plus other door prizes available. 

Knights and Ladies, Oswego Public Library, 1111 Reading Drive, Montgomery
The Scoop: Come dressed for royal court! School aged kids will learn all about knights, ladies, and medieval times. 2 p.m. Free.

Pajama Pool Party, Civic Center, 313 E. Washington St., Oswego
The Scoop: Relax under the stars on your raft or tube at the Civic Center. Enjoy a movie or games on the deck. 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. $4.
Inside Info: Bring your PJs and a blanket for when the night cools off. Popcorn and drink included.

Super Screen Saturday, Phillips Park, Aurora
The Scoop: The Tooth Fairy (PG) plays outdoors on the big screen starting at 9 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: Pre-movie festivities start at 8 p.m. Rain date is Aug. 6.

Sunday, July 24

Oswego Country Market, Downtown Main Street, Oswego
The Scoop: Every Sunday through September, this fresh-air market is full of locally grown produce, meat, eggs, fresh flowers, specialty food items and more. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Inside Info: Look for Tom's Organic Produce for farm-fresh summer treats.

Sandwich Antiques Market, Sandwich Fair Grounds, Sandwich
The Scoop: The Sandwich Antiques Market is a one-day a month summer market featuring quality exhibitors held at the park-like Sandwich Fair Grounds. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Inside Info: Sunday admission is $5 per person, parking is free and food is available for purchase.

Animals All Around, Red Oak Nature Center, Route 25, North Aurora
The Scoop: Kids can learn about salamanders starting at 2 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: No registration is necessary. Parents must accompany children.
