Weekend Grab Bag: Kayaking, Skating, Running and (Art)Walking

What fun are you going to pull out this weekend and beyond? Local events abound in the Patch lands of Montgomery, Oswego and Yorkville.

Friday, June 3

Autumn Creek Subdivision Garage Sale, Yorkville
The Scoop: Shop for treasures from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday
Inside Info: Located at Autumn Creek Blvd. and Route 34

Stamp-a-Dragon on it!, , Montgomery Campus, 1111 Reading Drive
The Scoop: Create a medieval t-shirt or bag at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. All kids welcome.  
Inside Info: Bring a clean, light colored t-shirt or bag to decorate using dragon & star stamps and fabric paint. Dress to get messy! Project will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Aurora ArtWalk, Aurora
The Scoop: Visit various venues along Downer Place and Stolp Avenue from 7 to 11 p.m. and experience what "art is." 
Inside Info: The grassroots ArtWalk is in its fifth year of making the downtown come alive with art, music, poetry and hands on activities.

Saturday, June 4

, Yorkville
The Scoop: Sixth annual Kendall County 5 & 8 kilometer run/walk starts at 8 a.m. at Yorkville High School, 797 Game Farm Rd.
Inside Info: Hosted by the Walter and Connie Payton Foundation 

, Oswego Public Library, Oswego
The Scoop: Free, family concert starts at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are required for the library concert. They are available at Youth Services.
Inside Info: Get ready to dance as Gill sings tunes that get families on their feet. Practice the "Silly Dance Contest" and more. Bring a blanket!

The Scoop: Get to Prairie Point Community Park, 4120 Plainfield Road, for some free skating fun at 2 p.m.
Inside Info: Oswegoland Park District dedicates its newest park; live music from local bands, demos from skaters and BMXers, skate clinics and giveaways from skate vendors.

Sunday, June 5

Pancake Breakfast at St. Patrick Church, Yorkville
The Scoop: Enjoy a delicious pancake & sausage breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Parish Center. Adults: $4; children under 12: $2. Family maximum: $12.
Inside Info: All proceeds will be used to fund the youth trip to the National Youth Conference in Steubenville, Ohio, July 15-17.

Mid-American Canoe & Kayak Race, Aurora
The Scoop: Mid-American turns 50 this year! Watch canoes and kayaks race the Fox, or get in on the fun. Four shuttle buses will be running from 7:30 a.m. to about 1 p.m. along the Fox River from St. Charles to Aurora.
Inside Info: This is an amateur canoe race for paddlers of all ages and abilities, featuring 10 canoe divisions and 6 kayak divisions.

Chess & Medieval Games, Oswego Public Library, Oswego
The Scoop: Come play a game of chess or try out other medieval games at 1 p.m. All skill levels welcome, ages 7 to 14.
