Weekend Grab Bag: Free Movie, Harvest Fest and Mothers' Sale

What fun are you going to pull out this weekend in the Patch lands of Montgomery, Oswego, Yorkville and beyond?

Friday, Oct. 7

Harvest Fest, The Garden Faire, 5 S. Madison St., Oswego
The Scoop: Bring the family for pumpkin painting, scarecrow building, face painting, costume judging, refreshments and many more surprises.
Inside Info: 95.9 FM (The River) will be doing a live broadcast from the store from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will announce raffle winners every 15 minutes.

Scarecrow Festival, St. Charles
The Scoop: Join families, friends and neighbors who flock to the annual fall event. The heart of the festival is on the west side of the Fox River in Lincoln Park, where hundreds of hand-crafted scarecrows are on display. Runs thru Sunday. Free.
Inside Info: Admission, parking, trolleys and parking shuttles are all FREE!

Family Night at Ellis House and Equestrian Center, 13986 McKanna Rd, Minooka
The Scoop: The Ellis House and Equestrian Center is hosting family fun nights on the first Friday of every month. A movie, pony rides ($2 per ride), bonfire, tractor-pulled hay rides, straw fort, nature trails, coloring pages and crafts. 4 to 7 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: A concession stand also will be available.

Saturday, Oct. 8

Farmers Market, , Yorkville
The Scoop: Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon through Oct. 29.
Inside Info: Offerings will include farm-grown vegetables, baked goods and fresh roasted coffee.

Mothers and More Fall Sale, , Montgomery
The Scoop: Mothers & More Oswego's fall children's clothing, toy resale and bake sale. 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. $1 admission at the door.
Inside Info: Proceeds to benefit Mothers and More of Oswego and Long Beach Elementary School.

Free Fall Movies, Kendall 10, Oswego
The Scoop: Judy Moody shows at 9 and 10 a.m. today and tomorrow.
Inside Info: Free fall movies on Saturdays and Sundays until November 6. Tickets are first come, first serve. Intermission with every show

Civil War Fashion, Sugar Grove Public Library, Sugar Grove
The Scoop: See the actural outfits the average woman wore during the Civil War era. Outfits include jewelery, accessories and parasols. 10:30 a.m. Free.
Inside Info: A Fox Valley Reads program. 

Hair Cut-a-thon, , 101 E. Center St., Yorkville
The Scoop: Get your hair cut for a monetary donation and help the Hunter Darnell family with rising medical cost. Noon to 4 p.m. Donations.

Women's World, Messenger Public Library, North Aurora
The Scoop: Enjoy a series of period reading and musical selections by members of the Windy City Performing Arts. 2:30 to 5 p.m. Free. Register here.
Inside Info: Windy City Performing Arts, Chicago's gay and lesbian chorus, will perform selections from the 1862 Godey's Ladies Book.
