Weekend Grab Bag: Carnivals, Clocks, Corn Boils

What fun are you going to pull out this weekend and beyond? Local events abound in the Patch lands of Montgomery, Oswego and Yorkville.

Friday, July 29

, Oswego Public Library, 1111 Reading Drive, Montgomery
The Scoop: Time says 6 p.m. - head over to the library with other pre-teens and make a clock using mosaic tiles. Free.
Inside Info: Ages 11 to 14. Registration required. 

Sugar Grove Corn Boil, Sugar Grove
The Scoop: Basically three days of non-stop fun including carnival rides, food, a 5K (3.1 miles) run and lots more. 
Inside Info: The fireworks for the Sugar Grove Corn Boil are sponsored by the Sugar Grove Lions. The group has done this for many years. This year the fireworks are scheduled for dusk, about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Their display is one to be envied by communities far and wide.

Saturday, July 30

Dragon Hunt, Hudson Crossing Park, Oswego
The Scoop: Hunt for dragons and hear stories courtesy of the Oswego Public Library. 11 a.m. to noon. Free.
Inside Info: Ages 3 to 7. In case of rain, head to the Oswego campus library instead.

Creative Kernels Grand Opening, 131 E. Hydraulic St., Yorkville
The Scoop: Pop on over to Creative Kernels for the official grand opening celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Inside Info: Kim McGuire, of Plano, sells 22 different flavors of gourmet popcorn in bags, tins, crates and baskets, including Phil’s Famous, named after her son. She has shipped her popcorn to more than 30 states and sells it at local events.

, Rosati's Pizza, 1985 Marketview Dr., Yorkville
The Scoop: Bring your ride down and enjoy some music, food and more. 7 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: Food and drink specials. Prizes for best of show.

Oswego Country Market, Downtown Main Street, Oswego
The Scoop: Every Sunday through September, this fresh-air market is full of locally grown produce, meat, eggs, fresh flowers, specialty food items and more. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Inside Info: Look for Tom's Organic Produce for farm-fresh summer treats.

Aurora Puerto Rican Parade, North River Street Park, Aurora
The Scoop: Carnival, games, food and fun at the 40th annual Puerto Rican festivities in downtown Aurora. 
Inside Info: Parade is Sunday at noon in downtown Aurora.
